What is French Jive?
Quite possibly the fastest growing partner dance in the UK. Easy to learn, and lots of moves for those natural dancers. It's great for both beginners and those who like a challenge. If you want a friendly place to meet new people, great music from today's charts back to the 1940s then French Jive is for you. Come and try the best dance night around. You'll be back for more.
Do I have to be a good dancer?
No, as our nights are not only about learning to dance but also having fun! That's why we have a bar, a large dance floor and a great dance crew to help you. French Jive is easy to learn as we keep the footwork to a minimum. The beginners' class is just right for new dancers. We want you to come and enjoy yourself and make sure you come back for more.
Is it a course?
No, it doesn't matter if you miss a week, you just come back to us on any of the 3 nights a week we offer and join in with a great class.
Can I turn up on my own?
Yes, of course you can as it's a very friendly night. We swap partners frequently during the class so you get to dance with people who know what they are doing. If you want to learn with a partner, then that's fine as well, just bring them along. Your instructor is on stage twice a night to take you through the beginners' moves and then later through an intermediate class. Don't worry, as beginners often join in from their first night.
What else do we do?
Friday & Saturday party nights. A party night at your favourite dance venue. More time to enjoy yourself with your friends and also the chance to dress up. Some of them are themed nights with guest instructors and raffles. You'll find that Jivers travel for miles to join in on a party night, so come along for a full evening of fun and freestyle dancing.
Some dancing etiquette and tips.
Practice makes perfect so the more you dance in the freestyle the quicker you will learn as everyone helps you.
Women, you ask the guys to dance and make sure you are on that dance floor practicing as much as possible.
We try not to say 'No' when someone asks us to dance. So don't be worried to ask, men to ladies or ladies to men.
Your Teachers and Demonstrators will love a dance with you and will happily go through the routine that has been taught that night or previous nights.
6 Beginners' classes are all it takes to feel comfortable with the beginner moves and be ready to take on the Intermediate moves.
Guys, you are the lead and ladies you follow. It's a great feeling when we both dance our part.
Remember, dancing can be close up and personal, (if you want it to be), so arrive fresh and perhaps bring a change of tops to keep that way!
